Young and old and everyone in-between are invited to celebrate Fastelavn at the House of Denmark. Fastelavn marks the beginning of Lent and some of the traditions associated with this event go back to the Middle Ages.
The children are encouraged to come dressed in costumes and they are invited to beat a barrel with a bat (‘slå katten af tønden’) to make the goodies inside fall out.
There will be a chance for everybody to make ‘fastelavnsris’ (a traditional craft for the season), and lets not forget eating those delicious ‘fastelavnsboller’ (lenten buns).
Participation is free to members of the House of Denmark. The cost is $5 for non-members (children as well as adults).
